A pupil at Hitchin Boys' School is celebrating after taking home multiple gold medals at a national diving championships.

Year 9 pupil Finn McFarlane had qualified for the Swim England Diving National Age Group Championships 2023 in Sheffield after winning gold in the south and south east regional finals.

He continued his fine performances in the national championships, as he took home a gold medal in the 1m springboard and a bronze medal in the 3m springboard.

In the 1m springboard competition, he was top of the leaderboard after the first round of dives and stayed there for the rest of the competition.

His total score of 259.00 saw him finish more than 25 points clear of 2nd place.

Meanwhile, in the 3m springboard competition, a fantastic final dive earned him a total score of 251.15 and a bronze medal.

Finn dives for Luton Diving Club, and his coach Alliyah Omar said: "Following a great set of results in the regionals, Finn had real determination in his eyes to medal at the Age Group National Finals and his attitude to succeed was unmatched.

"He was highly focussed and performed consistently well - his national title was thoroughly deserved and we are all really proud of him."
