Firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire on Six Hills Way in Stevenage earlier today (Friday, December 1).

Shortly after 6.30am, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of smoke coming from an electrical box next to a sub-station on the road.

Two fire engines from Stevenage fire station were sent to the scene, where crews found an electrical box to be on fire, popping and smoking.

Due to the high voltage of the sub-station, firefighters remained at the scene and made the area safe until a specialist team from UK Power Networks (UKPN) arrived to isolate the electricity supply.

Firefighters handed the scene over to UKPN, and left shortly after 8am.

No power cuts have been reported as a result of the incident.
