Planning permission is being sought for six new houses to be built in a residential street in Stevenage.

Applicant ACRE Stevenage Ltd wants to demolish existing yard buildings, currently used as office and storage space, in Julians Road in the Old Town and replace them with six terraced family homes and gardens.

The detached house at the front of the site would be retained under the plans.

A planning application submitted to Stevenage Borough Council outlines plans for four four-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses, set out as two terraces of three homes.

The proposals also include 12 car parking spaces.

A planning statement accompanying the application says: "The proposed development is an excellent opportunity to improve the economic, social and environmental conditions of the area."

It says the proposed development will "deliver decent new family housing on a brownfield site in an accessible location in line with national and local planning policy objectives".

The planning statement also says that the "beautifully designed new buildings will improve the local townscape," and "deliver much-needed family housing, which helps to meet an identified need."
