Stevenage’s hugely successful pantomime has won a major trophy at the Great British Pantomime Awards for the second year running.
After Tom Lister’s performance as Captain Hook scooped the ‘Best Male Baddie’ category last year, Twist and Pulse claimed the ‘Best Choreography’ accolade at this year’s awards.
The star-studded ceremony, hosted by panto legend Christopher Biggins, took place at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Sunday night.
Having appeared as pirates alongside former Emmerdale star Tom Lister in Peter Pan in 2016/2017, street dance duo Twist and Pulse took one of the top 2017/2018 prizes themselves.
Their choreography for Jordan Productions’ Jack and the Beanstalk at the Gordon Craig Theatre beat Nikki Wilkes (Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent), Ashley Johnson (Kings Theatre, Southsea), Dee Jago (Theatre Royal, Norwich) and Richard Roe (Hackney Empire) to the coveted trophy.
This is the sixth year in pantomime for the Britain’s Got Talent runners-up, having performed and choreographed in venues around the country.
After the awards, the London duo – Twist (Ashley Glazebrook) and Pulse (Glen Murphy) – said: “We literally can’t believe it!
“This really means the world to us and we can’t wait to continue in the world of choreography and pantomime.
“The biggest thanks to Jordan Productions for always allowing us to be creative and run wild with our crazy ideas.”
Lisa Mathieson played Jack Trott in the hit GCT production last Christmas.
After hearing of Twist and Pulse’s awards victory, she tweeted: “Yeeeeaaahhh! Love my @TwistandPulse boys and LOVED dancing their choreography! Well deserved!”
Former ’Allo ’Allo star Vicki Michelle, who is a patron of the Gordon Craig Theatre, also tweeted: “Congrats to Twist and Pulse on winning Best Choreography for Jack and the Beanstalk @GBPantoAwards @Jordan_Prods well done @GCTStevenage @TwistandPulse”
Pantomime audiences in Stevenage are set to see more of Twist and Pulse’s amazing choreography this winter in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which runs from Friday, November 30 to Sunday, January 27, 2019.
An update on the Gordon Craig Theatre’s Facebook page read: “We’re delighted to announce that the award-winning Twist and Pulse are back to choreograph Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs this year – fresh from their win for Best Choreography for last year’s Stevenage panto (Jack & the Beanstalk) at the Great British Pantomime Awards on Sunday.”
