THE Hard Way is Lee Child's best Jack Reacher episode yet, with the army-cop-turned-drifter this time using his skills to find the missing wife and child of a Mr Big.

Roaming around New York and finishing in the English countryside, Reacher's pursuit is fast paced and gritty and is backed up by the uncompromising style of the author.

The only criticisms are that it is a bit far-fetched at times and the last few pages come up on you a little hurriedly. But we can forgive Child for that.

It's good to read a thriller which doesn't try to scare its reader. 3/5
