A CHOIR of more than 180 singers was in good voice to celebrate International Women's Day.

Hitchin Rotary Club presented an evening of song performed by three local choirs and accompanied by the Hitchin Light Orchestra at St Mary's Church to mark the event last Wednesday.

The Holy Saviour Choir, North Herts Guild of Singers and Radcliffe Singers joined together to provide audiences with a spectacular concert.

Event organiser Brent Smith said: "It was wonderful to see the church full of people and enjoying such an amazing high quality of performance."

The Rev Frank Mercurio also gave a presentation on the work carried out by the Sudan HS charity.

Over £1,600 was raised to be divided between the St Mary's Fabric Appeal and Sudan HS.

St Mary's need to raise at least £300,000 to save and preserve the church, while Sudan HS works to support displaced Sudanese people in resettlement camps to return to their home villages.
