MUSICIANS from the Amazonian rainforest will join acapella choirs and Letchworth punks to descend on Hitchin for this year's Rhythms of The World festival.

This annual weekend feast of music and partying is only a few weeks away, taking place on the weekend of July 15 and 16 and there are more things going on than you can shake a rather large stick at.

Over 200 acts from all over the world will be performing in and around Hitchin at 11 separate venues, including Hitchin Town Football Club which the organisers have managed to get involved as a venue for the first time.

RoTW will be a pretty similar affair to last year in that it is bringing together such a diverse range of performers under the umbrella of the town-wide festival.

Joining local favourites Frog Stupid, My Pet Junkie and The Otters will be Amazonian musicians Neuneneu, 15-year-old hip hop lyricist Robyn Johnson and London-based Ghanaian and Caribbean band Osibisa, to name but a few.

At various fringe events around the town bars and pubs are opening up their doors allowing for all-day line-ups.

Shorty's Sports Bar will see Red Dollar, Badwell Ash and Super Hands performing, and The Phoenix will host 20 acts over the weekend including Jack Names the Planets, Left Engine and Blood Sapan.

If you cannot find anything you like over the weekend you really should seal up your ears with Polyfilla because it's obvious you're not a music fan.

You've got rap, opera, punk, rock, ska, reggae, hip hop, samba, DJs and one man bands. There really is something for everyone.

If this hasn't whetted your appetite then visit www.rotw.org.uk for more details.

Alternatively, an 80-page RoTW programme will be on sale at the beginning of July at various locations around the town.
