VINCE and Joy's love affair starts in rather inauspicious settings, a caravan park in Norfolk one summer.

They fall head-over-heels in love but fate and her difficult family get in the way and they are separated.

Years later they meet again after a string of coincidences, but still things do not run smoothly.

Lisa Jewell is a talented writer and the book is full of interesting, well-rounded, characters.

Both the leads go through some pretty tough times and don't lead idealised London lives like so many characters in so-called chick-lit novels.

The male perspective from Vince is well thought through and constructed and adds an extra dimension to the story.

Vince and Joy is a gentle, absorbing read. 4/5
