Vikings ahoy! Shuttleworth gets ready for a friendly invasion

There have been so many landmark anniversaries from British history this year – Magna Carta, Agincourt, Waterloo – that it might have escaped your notice that it’s the 1,000th anniversary of Viking King Forkbeard and his son Canute’s invasion of Britain. It made a bit of a stir at the time, that’s for sure...
And at the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, better known for historic aircraft than seafaring invaders, they’ve decided to stage some special events to commemorate the occasion.
On Monday youngsters can build a Viking longboat to take home and on Tuesday there’s a chance to learn about the ancient language of the Vikings and make a set of clay rune stones.
There are morning and afternoon sessions on offer, with a maximum of 20 places available at each.
You can find out full details, as well as information about other Old Warden attractions, at www.shuttleworth.org.
