Two Hitchin-based charities are set to benefit from a volunteer amateur dramatics society’s annual show.

Proceeds from the Variety Express show which takes to the St Francis College Theatre stage in Letchworth next week will go to LifeGeta and Phase.

Lifegeta is a support network for people with life-changing acquired conditions and diagnosis, while Phase promotes, prevents and supports wellbeing and resilience for all young people.

Following last year’s success, producers Lee and Dawn are putting their unique spin on their second production, ‘Variety Express Reanimated’. It will contain all the hallmarks of a show which has been entertaining audiences for more than 37 years – raising in excess of £113,000 in the process – but organisers promise even more variety, style and passion.

This year’s show is inspired by Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks films and features songs such as ‘Sound of Silence’, ‘My Way’ and ‘Let it Go’. Come join Tinkerbell and friends on a mysterious journey across the African Plains, Under the Sea and onto a magical land Far, Far Away in search of her mojo. All this will be brought to audiences through the medium of song, dance and comedy.

The 32-strong cast, plus guests, have worked tirelessly to produce an amazing, value for money, extravaganza for your viewing pleasure.

Cast member Diane Humberstone said: “I am so proud to be part of this fantastic group – I believe we have the most talented amateur singers and dancers across Herts, Beds and Bucks. We rely on ticket sales to allow us to donate as much as possible to our chosen charities, so please come along and be entertained.”

The show runs from next Thursday to Sunday, October 25 to 28, at the theatre in Broadway

After a sold-out matinee performance last year, there’s an additional 2pm matinee on October 28 to compliment the traditional 2pm Saturday show – with evening performances at 7.30pm on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
