Ali Smith's Whitbread award winning novel centres on the Smart family in their Norfolk holiday home one hot summer.
A stranger called Amber appears at the door and a quiet summer is turned on its head.
This is an artful, innovative book and as such not always the easiest of reads.
Smith's pleasure in playing with language is a joy to witness but can sometimes make the book hard to get into.
However, stick with it and you won't be disappointed.
Thanks to Ottakar's of Stevenage 3/5
