Soul glow to combat cancer
Raising the spirit of classic Caister Soul Weekenders, two friends are hosting a night of 70s to 90s soul, funk, reggae and rare grooves to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.
The event at Bedwell Community Centre in Stevenage on Saturday is being organised by childhood friends John Palma and Curtis Irish both long-time Stevenage residents, who wanted to help Macmillan Cancer Support after being affected by the disease.
John said: “We realised that over the past few years our lives have been touched by friends and relatives who have not only suffered from cancer, but have also lost their lives to the disease. Most recently a great friend of ours died after a long battle with lung cancer.
“Cancer does not discriminate and yet the community is somewhat silent, with many afraid to talk about it or shy away from the subject. It was this silence that led us to the decision to try and bring the community together, raise spirits and awareness and support Macmillan, who do such a good job.”
DJs include Stevenage Soul Club’s Audley and Paul, and Robbie Burns, Tristan P and Lee Drummond.
