A key cog in the National Theatre production of War Horse is bringing his folk stylings to Baldock next month.

Bob Fox is the record-breaking show’s longest serving ‘songman’ – a singing narrator who links the action with evocative words and music – and has just completed two London runs.

He has two further runs coming up with the touring show, but not before he makes a return visit to Baldock Blues, Folk and Roots at the town’s Orange Tree pub on June 7.

Club organiser Alan Hewson said: “One of the best voices on the folk scene, a superb guitarist and wit, Bob can boast having Fairport Convention as members of his fan club.

“He was enjoying great popularity as a solo artist and having much fun touring as a duo with Billy Mitchell and the new Pitmen Poets, when a meeting with John Tams – the singer and actor best known for ITV drama series Sharpe as rifleman Daniel Hagman – changed his life completely.

“John suggested that Bob would be an ideal songman in the National Theatre’s production of War Horse in the West End. The rest, as they say, is history.”

Entry is £12 on the door, with a £2 reduction for concessions.
