At the other end of the scale is the Rev, who have been knocking out sparkling, dreamy chunks of gentle space-rock musings for an impressive 15 years, with no sign of stopping.

This collection rounds up many of the band's singles (including 90s delight Goddess On A Highway and In A Funny Way) and earlier swirling symphonies.

There is definite whiff of the marketing man in this release, disc one appealing to the casual fan while disc two, with its Rev rarities, session tracks and cover versions will get long-time fans salivating.

But cynicism is hard to sustain in the face of this cult US band's spellbinding output.
