Lauded by critics everywhere, Jenny Lewis-fronted band Rilo Kiley released undoubtedly one of the best, most tunefully and emotionally intelligent albums of any US act in 2005.
But while Lewis' masterful songwriting found its counterpart in Kiley's tunesmithery, it seems to misfire when partnered with The Watson Twins' sentimental Americana.
The former child model's sweet, breathy soprano is as piercing as ever, but is allied to a genre where other contemporary country-gospel vocalists can expose it as an animal out of its natural environment.
