Well, the final figures are in and SPAD's 50th pantomime can be officially declared a hit - a palpable hit! Ticket sales for the show which was staged at the Plinston hall in Letchworth were high with some 97% of seats sold and audience response was very positive - oh yes it was!

The traditional tale of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' was told with SPAD's usual enthusiasm and vitality. The scenery and costumes were colourful and vibrant and the whole show roared along at a cracking pace.

Of special interest was the giant which, at 12 feet tall, was literally head and shoulders above the rest of the cast. Naturally, good triumphed over evil, the giant was slain, the villagers freed from tyranny and all lived happily ever after.

SPADs have been presenting shows, plays and other forms of entertainment for over 70 years to a loyal and ever-growing audience. Currently in rehearsal are two one-act plays: 'Garlic and Lavender', a Transylvanian romp with Count Drackenburg and 'Specialty', a play with a twist, I shall say no more! Tickets are a bargain at 7.50 and that includes a light supper and a licensed bar! This very popular evening regularly sells out so the advice is to book early, which you can do by ringing 01462 677157.
