A FORMER Hitchin Boys School pupil has recorded an album track after being chosen by the head of A&R at EMI.

James Bay, 19, who is studying guitar at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, was selected by Felix Howard as “someone to watch” after the music chief saw him perform with his band in a competition to appear on the college’s annual compilation album, What’s Inside Your Head?

James, a regular on the music scene whose eponymous Trio performed at Rhythms of the World last year, describes the track, Glow, as “soulful blues”.

“I really enjoyed recording this track.” James said. “I learned a lot working with different people in the studio, as well as my band members. I hope the opportunity to release this track will take me that little bit further into a career in music.”

The album is available for download on iTunes for 7.99. All proceeds go to the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity.
