Gong is a four-letter word that means a lot to fans of progressive music – formed in 1967, it’s a Franco-British outfit famous for incorporating elements of jazz and classical music into its musical style.
And three current members of the ensemble will be performing in Hitchin on Saturday night as Inspiral Trio.
The venue is billing it as ‘a tasteful melange of solo and triadic creations from unique musicians’ so you can put mainstream expectations to one side for the night.
Also on the bill is Peyote, described as a vehicle for main man Lee Russell to draw on 25 years of experience to explore live synth soundscapes. Club 85 helpfully suggests: “Think Tangerine Dream meets The Orb.”
It’s £10 in advance and £12 on the door, and it all gets under way at 7.45pm so there’s plenty of time to google ‘triadic’ – and indeed ‘kosmische’ – to find out what’s going on. More details online at www.club-85.co.uk.
