Winterfest at Hitchin’s Benslow Music comes to an end on Friday night with a performance by the Fidelio Trio.

The festival programme at the musical hothouse which promotes top-notch concerts as well as providing residential and day courses throughout the year has featured four concerts, with the Tedesca Quartet performing works by Haydn, Schumann and Mozart last night, with Beethoven, Michael Nyman and Saint-Saëns on the bill tomorrow.

The concert begins at 8pm and you can book on the door for £12, with anyone under 25 getting in free.

The venue has also been offering a Christmas menu to be enjoyed in the splendid surroundings of the Victorian house set in four acres of gardens.

Mulled wine and mince pies are served in front of the roaring log fire followed by a three course meal in the dining room, accompanied by live chamber music.

If you missed this week’s performance by the Tedesca Quartet they’ll be back in the new year, with a concert scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, when music from Haydn, Beethoven and Debussy is promised.

Also on the calendar is a visit by the Coull Quartet on Friday, January 30, with works by Haydn, Ravel and Beethoven planned.
