Already touted as one of the British stars of 2006, the Leodensian chanteuse has a lot to live up to.

This initial batch of sun-dappled soul, with smatterings of R&B and jazz, is unlikely to disappoint.

Top-drawer production brings out Rae's undoubted talent as a soloist, but with lyrics too rooted in sappy romance to be this year's Amy Winehouse and music too straight-laced to take 'This Year's Erykah Badu' crown (but sounding not unlike either), Rae's 11-song line-up is unchallenging, albeit very pretty.

Put Your Records On is a prime example; a sugary blast of early summer soul that has taken major radio playlists hostage in recent weeks.

A promising talent. 3/5
