Punk generation music icon Viv Albertine’s memoir of life in the fast lane has been garlanded with awards – and now you can meet the author in Letchworth.
Clothes, Music, Boys was hailed as music book of the year by the Sunday Times and has also picked up a clutch of specialist awards.
It’s the story of how guitarist Viv became part of the Slits, a hugely influential all-girl band who took on the male-dominated music scene of the 1970s and lived to tell the tale.
Viv’s post-punk life, including a career in film, the pain of IVF, illness and divorce and the triumph of making music again, is also covered in a remarkable memoir.
She will be at David’s Bookshop in Eastcheap on Thursday, March 19, from 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, deductible from the cost of the paperback (£8.99) if you buy it at the event. Call 01462 684631 for more details, or visit the website at www.davids-bookshops.co.uk.
