Deadline done, the paper has been put to bed and a long drive home on the heavily congested streets of St Albans awaits before I can reach for a well-deserved glass of wine. Rather than subject my frayed nerves to the excitement of Simon Mayo on Radio 2, I need some tunes which will help me unwind after the stresses of the working day. Fortunately this triple-CD set of down tempo and meditative songs is designed to loosen your shoulders, unfurrow your brow and generally put you in a much better mood for the evening ahead.

There’s a neat mix of soundtrack extracts, including Julee Cruise’s seminal Twin Peaks song Falling, the score from the Beeb’s Blue Planet, Crockett’s Theme by Jan Hammer and (Theme From) Midnight Express, alongside classic tracks from the likes of Moby, Goldfrapp, Seal, Ellie Goulding, Morcheeba and Air, plus other groundbreaking numbers from the nineties and noughties.

It’s exactly the sort of album you’ll hear playing in a spa or wellbeing centre, and that’s certainly not a criticism. In fact, you’d be hard placed to find a more calming collection of tracks, and the danger then is avoiding getting just a little bit too relaxed on that drive home!
