Folk’s latest supergroup, Nancy Kerr and the Sweet Visitor Band, headline at Hitchin Folk Club this weekend.

Already a respected interpreter of traditional material, Nancy’s emergence as a writer of rare style has drawn comparisons to William Blake in her reawakening of a radical folk mythology as a backdrop for contemporary narratives about love and conflict, motherhood, migration, hardship and jubilation, and the tensions between rural and urban life.

She is joined in this venture by Rowan Rheinegans on fiddle and banjo, Tom Wright on guitar and drums, Greg Russell on guitar and Tim Yates on melodeon and bass.

Supporting will be Zoë Wren, a familiar name on the bill at the Sunday night sessions at the town’s Sun Hotel.

Zoë is an acoustic singer-songwriter from Camden, combining traditional and modern folk styles with rock and pop influences.

Tickets are £13 for members, £15 for non-members. Visit www.hitchinfolkclub.idnet.net for full details.
