Popular performers whose playbook of early English music has created an envied reputation for excellence make a welcome return to Benslow Music next week.

The Rose Consort of Viols will be at the Hitchin venue on Tuesday night to play selections from a repertoire that is drawn entirely from the early English era, including works from Byrd, Gibbons, Tomkins, Jenkins, Lawes and Purcell.

The ensemble performs extensively across the UK and Europe as well as appearing regularly on the BBC, and has also created a catalogue of acclaimed recordings.

A Benslow Music spokesman said: “Among its members there are absolute authorities in early music performance.

“This a rare chance to listen to a not often played repertoire performed by exceptionally talented musicians.”

Tickets for the 8pm performance are £12 and free for anyone under 27 – find out more at www.benslowmusic.org.
