* Waiting (15) This film tries to make a comedy out of the boredom found in three men's workplace - a burger bar. Dean is worried his time serving burgers is leading him nowhere, Radimus is losing in their flashing competition and Monty is failing miserably at getting anywhere with the hostess. 2/5

* The King (15) A young man leaves the Navy and heads out into the world to find his father, an ex-hellraiser who now preaches at an evangelical Southern church. This is an intelligent and gripping story dealing with questions of sin, goodness and God, as well as family relations in the grip of past and present wrongdoings. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal. 4/5

* Prime (12A) Uma Thurman (Rafi) stars alongside the equally attractive but younger Bryan Greenberg and his mother played by Meryl Streep. A romantic comedy set in New York that follows Rafi's dealings with a toy boy and her struggle to find out if it's really what she wants. 3/5

* Brick (15) Brendan is a high-school outcast who hears from his panic-stricken girlfriend. The result is a trail of intrigue as he sets out to infiltrate the illicit cliques his girlfriend left him for, accompanied by two sidekicks. 4/5

* Confetti (15) A great line-up of British comedy talent, including Jimmy Carr, Martin Freeman and Alison Steadman, make this a seasoned production as couples compete to win a luxury home. All they have to do is come up with the most original wedding of the year and ideas include a Broadway musical, a tennis match and a nudist rite... 3/5

* When A Stranger Calls (15) A remake of the 1979 horror flick, the film follows the nightmare evening of a taunted babysitter. As a storm rages outside, Camilla Belle plays Jill, who has to overcome many obstacles and melodramas to ensure the safety of the sleeping children in her care. 2/5

* Mission Impossible III (12A) Tom Cruise reprises his role of ice cool super spy Ethan Hunt under the guiding hand of director Lost creator JJ Abrams. Abrams tries to add in a bit of depth to Hunt's character and is partially successful, but is sure not to leave out a barrage of high-octane stunts and fancy gadgetry. 3/5

* Silent Hill (15) A big screen adaptation of a video game that fairs reasonably well and is almost devoutly faithful to its source material. Radha Mitchell stars as a mum searching for her missing daughter in the deserted, spooky town of the title. 3/5

* Eight Below (PG) Dogs are the stars of this remake of Koreyoshi Kurahara's 1983 film Antarctica. A team of sled dogs fight for survival after three scientists are forced to leave them behind. 3/5

* Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (U) Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, Sid the sloth and Manny the mammoth are trying to get themselves to the safety of a giant ark before the ice dam melts and drowns their frozen valley. Not quite up there with the likes of Shrek, but a jolly hour-and-a-half's animated entertainment. 4/5

* She's The Man (12A) Likeable but unremarkable teen movie re-telling of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. A tomboy banned from the soccer team poses as her brother at his new school, but ends up falling for a team mate. 2/5

* The Shaggy Dog (U) This tale of a man who turns into a dog achieves the ultimate family movie goal of appealing to adults and children alike. Danny Glover, Kristin Davis, Tim Allen and Robert Downey Jnr star. 4/5
