IN THE early 70s, drug-cop Richie Roberts tries to bring down Harlem heroin dealer and all-round bad-ass Frank Lucas.
On paper it has everything - guns and gangsters, Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington and the underrated Josh Brolin, and Gladiator, Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott at the helm.
But for some unknown reason American Gangster isn't the jaw-dropping epic audiences were expecting. There are plenty better gangster movies on the market.
It is a good movie, but not exceptional.
