THE story of an inventor who changed people’s lives is being told at a museum situated a mile away from his place of birth.
An exhibition celebrating the life of Sir Henry Bessemer (pictured) opened at the British Schools Museum in Hitchin last Tuesday, 200 years after his birth in the nearby village of Charlton.
The exhibition explains Sir Henry’s remarkable life and marvels at the scope of his work, which include the invention of the Bessemer Process, enabling the production of cheap and large scale production of steel.
Crucible of Fire – The Life and Work of Sir Henry Bessemer, the local hero with the global impact, runs at the museum in Queen Street until June 2.
