A LIVE screening of a play being performed at a London theatre will be shown in a cinema next week.

The Broadway Cinema in Letchworth GC will be showing the National Theatre’s political drama This House on Thursday, May 16.

Set in 1974 when the UK faced economic crisis and a hung parliament, James Graham’s acclaimed play strips politics down to the practical realities behind the scenes, with sick MPs carried through the lobby to register their vote and where whips rolled up their sleeves and on occasion bent the rules to shepherd and coerce a diverse chorus of MPs.

To coincide with the screening a free political debate is being held in the Spirella Building in Letchworth GC on Tuesday, May 14.

A panel, which includes sociologist and author Richard Sennett, journalist Martin Bright and BBC’s The Thick Of It actress Rebecca Gethings, will consider how coalitions work or fall apart in a one-hour discussion from 7-8pm.

Tickets for This House are £15 – visit www.broadway-cinema.com to book.

Admission to the debate is free although advanced booking is required either by calling 01462 487868 or emailing tic@letchworth.com
