Works performed by members of Stevenage Male Voice Choir at a fundraising concert next week will include a new song written by two of their own.

John Francis Bishop and Derek Thurland have composed the song to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, and the programme will include a medley of familiar songs from the era with audience participation encouraged.

There will also be songs made famous by the likes of Sting and Adele, two piano solos by regular accompanist Ben Ward, and the choir will be conducted by musical director Paul Adrian Rooke.

The concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 11, at St Peter’s Church in Broadwater, and is in aid of the town-based Bridge Builders charity, which works to support vulnerable families in the area and spread the Christian message through working with schools.

Tickets are £7.50 (£5 concessions) on the door, but you can reserve yours by calling 01438 314314 or visiting www.bridgebuilderstrust.org.uk

Refreshments will be available during the interval and there will be a wine and chocolate raffle.

The choir is always looking to recruit new members – visit www.smvc.org to find out more.
