If you missed the chance to enjoy a classic film in the setting of Hitchin’s historic parish church last week, don’t worry – there’s another screening coming next month.
The St Mary’s showing of black and white feelgood classic It’s a Wonderful Life on Saturday was a fundraiser in aid of the Humanitas charity.
But the idea of using the church as a venue for out of the ordinary films is obviously a winner, so on Saturday, January 17, you’ll be able to catch the 1925 silent classic The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney as the disfigured composer at the centre of the story, with live organ accompaniment from cinema keyboard king Donald MacKenzie.
The screening, which will raise funds to maintain the Grade I listed landmark, will start at 7.30pm and doors open at 7pm.
Tickets can be ordered through the Hitchin Films website (£12 plus booking fee) – visit www.hitchinfilms.co.uk to find out more.
