Stevenage Choral Society has plumped for a decidedly religious theme for its 2015 concerts, kicking off this weekend with a lesser known gem from the classical repertoire, Beethoven’s Mass in C.

Overshadowed by the more famous Missa Solemnis, the work is a lyrical masterpiece, which includes some of Beethoven’s most sublime music for voices.

Musical director Robin Osterley says: “This amazingly innovative piece is full of constant surprises.”

The first half of the concert will feature the North Herts Youth Orchestra which draws on the talent of performers from Hitchin, Stevenage, Baldock and Royston who will be playing music by Mozart and Schubert’ under the leadership of conductor Justin Fung.

The concert starts at 7.30pm on Saturday at the Church of St Andrew and St George in St George’s Way, Stevenage.
