Pack up your troubles and take a trip back to the 1940s this weekend when pupils from Stevenage’s Lights Up Theatre Academy present Poppy’s Project at the Lytton Theatre.
The academy caters for young performers aged seven to 14 and is based at the Stevenage Community Arts Centre at the Roaring Meg retail park.
Saturday night’s show is billed as reflective look at the Second World War through the eyes of modern day young people, and aims to be an informative, educational piece of theatre spiced with dance, drama and song.
The Poppy of the title is a studious girl who persuades sleepover pals to help with her homework project.
Together they set off on a journey through the wartime years, finding out how the conflict affected both those fighting on the front line and those on the home front.
The show at the Vardon Road theatre is part of the Stevenage Festival fringe and there are performances at 1.30pm and 6.30pm.
