Fans of the work of the Putteridgebury Gilbert & Sullivan Society will be able to pick and choose when the company returns to Hitchin’s Queen Mother Theatre next week.

The title on the tickets is The Best of all Musical Worlds, in which the huge range of musical theatre will be explored, with special guests from Luton Male Voice Choir.

There will be The Best of all Possible Worlds from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide and the famous Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdis’ Nabucco, as well as light relief in the form of Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors – a show which can be seen in full later in the month just down the road at the Woodside Hall home of Hitchin Thespians.

At the QMT show next Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, starting at 7.45pm each night, audiences get a chance to look at future shows the society will be performing and give feedback on what they would like to see.

The company is currently cock-a-hoop after scooping a coveted regional National Operatic and Dramatic Association award for best costumes, recognising the high quality of recent productions of Into The Woods and HMS Pinafore, which was seen at the Hitchin venue in June.

A spokesman said: “We have been nominated for this award in the past, and it is a tribute to the hard work that goes into making sure that our shows as good to look at as they are to listen to!”
