The team at Letchworth’s David’s Bookshop have teamed up with the Benslow Lane venue famed for its classic music credentials to play host to the cultural historian, whose latest book examines forgotten women composers.

Anna will be talking about Sounds and Sweet Airs, The Forgotten Women of Classical Music, and signing copies on Friday from 4.30pm.

In the book she reveals the hidden stories of eight remarkable female composers – an inspiring, group of women who present a complex picture of artistic endeavour and achievement that deserves to be part of our cultural heritage.

Why do we still not hear masterpieces such as Fanny Hensel’s piano work The Year, Francesca Caccini’s arias and Lili Boulanger’s setting of Psalm 130?

Why do these names not feature on the school syllabus alongside men like Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn?

But this book is not only for those interested in women or indeed classical music.

Each chapter takes the reader to a different, and intriguing, time and place, from Medici Florence in the 1620s to the London of the 1970s.

Tickets are only £2 and include afternoon tea.
