The team at Hitchin’s Benslow Music is getting set for its annual baroque opera course, which finishes with a public performance of a chosen work.

The course aims to produce a fully-staged performance – this year it’s Venus & Adonis by John Blow – in just five days.

The chorus and orchestra consist of fee-paying course members with soloists – many coming from top conservatoires – having to audition and successful applicants getting bursaries to attend.

The public performance is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, and as well as 12 noon and 7.30pm evening performances for the opera there is also a 5.30pm slot set aside for Purcell’s Welcome to all the Pleasures, followed by a pre-opera dinner and the evening performance of Venus and Adonis.

Tickets are £12 for opera only and £30 for what’s billed as the ultimate Baroque experience – call 01462 459446 for details or visit www.benslowmusic.org.
