A cult novel adapted for the stage is the latest production for Hitchin’s Big Spirit Youth Theatre, and the curtain goes up on Wednesday night.

Vernon God Little was DBC Pierre’s debut work but it won him the Booker Prize, and the story has been adapted for the stage by Tanya Ronder.

Katie Milward directs next week’s production at the Queen Mother Theatre in Walsworth Road, which runs until Saturday night.

The choice of material is a step change from the group’s last show, a production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet back in November.

The Vernon of the title role is a teenage trailer trash kid who may or may not have been involved in the slaughter of 17 schoolmates – and if you’re joining the audience, be prepared for strong language. The team behind the show advise that anyone aged under 14 should probably steer clear.

The show starts each night at 7.45pm, tickets are £8 and you can find out more at www.qmt.org.uk.
