Leys Avenue and Eastcheap were filled to the brim on Saturday and Sunday, as thousands of visitors enjoyed Thai chicken, Dutch pancakes and everything in between.

And Letchworth BID manager Tom Hardy told the Comet afterwards that the festival, boasting a funfair, live music and more, had been a great success.

Tom said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited Letchworth at the weekend for our annual Letchworth Food and Drink Festival.

“Every year the town is filled with thousands of visitors enjoying the delicious local cuisines and taking in all that Letchworth has to offer, and this year was no exception.

“We had a packed town centre filled with food, music and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

“As with all our projects and events, these are only made possible by the financial contributions from our town centre businesses.

“These festivals are a great way of attracting high numbers to the town, so hopefully these visitors will return and make use of the shops that make these events possible.”

Apart from the food and drink, funfair and live music, the festival boasted a car show and an engine from Baldock & Letchworth fire station, with firefighters on hand to explain all about what they do.

Akua Obeng-Frimpong and the Letchworth Festival team were also there promoting next month’s festivities, along with a stall selling items including Sir Ebenezer Howard T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan ‘Ebenezer, what a geezer’.

Great food, live music and funfair rides will remain de rigeur in the garden city over the coming months, with the Letchworth Food & Lifestyle Market launching this Saturday.

The food and lifestyle market will run on Thursday and Saturday every week in Leys Avenue, and is billed as a great day out for all the family.
