David’s Bookshop in Letchworth will welcome a number of authors throughout this month to discuss and sign new releases.

Kicking things off on Tuesday will be Letchworth writer Tommy Barnes, who will be talking about his French adventure.

A Beer in the Loire is the real-life story of the former Hitchin Boys’ School pupil’s attempt to start a brewery with no experience in a tiny village in the Loire Valley.

The signing will begin at 7.30pm at the shop in Eastcheap.

At the same time and venue the following day, Sunday Times top-five bestseller Ann Cleeves will be talking about her final book in the Shetland series, Wild Fire.

Drawn in by the reputation of the islands, an English family move to the area, eager to give their autistic son a better life. But when a young nanny’s body is found hanging in the barn of their home, rumours of her affair with the husband begin to spread like wild fire.

Damian Le Bas will be at the store on Wednesday, September 19, from 7.30pm to sign and discuss his book, The Stopping Places, A Journey Through Gypsy Britain.

In a bid to better understand his Gypsy heritage, the book explores the history of the Romany in Britain and the rhythms of their lives today.

Journalist Marianne Power will discuss and sign her new book Help Me, a quest to find out if self-help can really change her life.

Instead of endlessly reading self-help books in an attempt to fix her life, she decided she would road-test self-help books – one a month for a year, and tackle her issues one book at a time. She visits David’s at 7.30pm on Monday, September 24.

And the month concludes over at the Spirella Ballroom, where historian Ben McIntyre is to discuss and sign his new book, The Spy and the Traitor.

The tome tells the story of Cold War secret agent Oleg’s daring secret escape from Soviet Russia.

Gordievsky gave us invaluable insights into Russia’s fears about British tactics, so there’s plenty of interesting facts to be uncovered from the talk.

The book is the latest in the author’s line of works, which also include Agent Zigzag, Operation Mincemeat A Spy Among Friends and SAS.

Catch Ben at the Spirella on Thursday, September 27, again from 7.30pm.

Tickets for all events are £6 and deductible from the cost of the hardback book.

To book tickets for any of these events call 01462 684631 or call in to the shop in Eastcheap.
