SPADS, St Paul's Amateur Dramatic Society to give it its full name, began in 1937 in a wooden building next to St Paul's Church in Pixmore Way and moved to the Church Hall in 1959, where we have been ever since.

Over the years we have performed many pantomimes, plays and variety shows. Our first 22 years were spent at St Francis School's theatre but smaller shows are now staged at St Paul's Hall in Pixmore Way. Our recent production of 'Abigail's Party' was given the Best Drama Award for the district by NODA.

We moved the pantomimes to The Plinston Hall some 28 years ago and they are enjoyed by an appreciative local audience - indeed last year's show was a virtual sell-out. This year we will be performing Jack and the Beanstalk, our 50th Pantomime which, by a happy coincidence, was also the first pantomime we produced. This looks set to be another resounding success with ticket sales already past the 1000 mark. It runs from 27th December to 2nd January.

We have a very keen membership ranging from teenagers to senior citizens in their 70's, a number of whom will be on hand this coming Friday to help switch on the Letchworth Christmas lights. New members are always welcome.
