Our countdown to Rhythms of the World continues this week as we look at more highlights of the festival.

Playing on the Main Stage at 9.45pm on Saturday is Indian folk-rock-Sufi-powerhouse The Raghu Dixit Project.

The multilingual vocalist Dixit delivers a joyous punch with his raucous combination of English, Hindi and Kannada backed by electric guitars and violin which draw on a mix of bhangra, blues, rock, reggae and Latin influences.

A star in the blossoming Indian alternative music scene, Raghu has also made waves internationally, performing on Later with Jools Holland last year and winning Songlines Magazine’s Best World Music Newcomer 2011 this month (check it out now – he’s on the cover). And he just stormed Glastonbury.

Ska Cubano are getting more attention than any UK ska band since the genre’s heyday in the 1980s.

Mixing up ska and mambo, the Camberwell meets Santiago outfit has created a sound both nostalgic and fresh. And with 12 members, including four horns, three percussionists and three vocalists that sound is huge.

The group comes to Rhythms on the back of world tours and high octane party performances at Womad, Big Day Out and Glasto.

Rhythms of the World takes place on July 9 and 10 at Hitchin Priory. To book your tickets at 7 for adults and 3 for youths (under sixes go free) go to www.rotw.org.uk
