A CHARITY concert will be held in Hitchin this weekend, following the success of the recent BBC Symphony Orchestra at the same venue.
Hitchin-born musician Michael Leaver, together with four colleagues, will present an evening of classical music on Saturday, July 30 at St Mary’s Church in Hitchin.
Michael, who played at the BBC Symphony commemoration concert, was inspired by the occasion and decided to join together with other local musicians to form the Goldfield Ensemble.
He said: “As a member of a large orchestra, it was a fantastic occasion to play in a small and intimate setting and was all the more enjoyable for me as Hitchin is my home town.
“Myself and four other professional musicians have been getting together to play some chamber music, initially just for our own enjoyment, but now for a charity concert in Hitchin.”
The Goldfield Ensemble comprises of Ashwell musicians Kate Romano (clarinet) and Nicola Goldscheider (Violin), Fairfield Park cellist Toby Turton, Violinist Biranda Ford and Michael on the viola.
A broad range of favourites will be played, with the likes of Mozart and Brahm’s clarinet quintets on the programme.
The concert will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the night and are priced at 10 for adults, including an interval drink, and free for under 18s. Proceeds will be donated to the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
