The biggest-selling black British artist will be performing in Stevenage on Saturday.

With over 30m record sales making him a global superstar of the 1980s, Billy Ocean will be putting on a rare UK show at The Gordon Craig Theatre.

The Trinidad-born, British-raised R&B star got his first break in 1976 with the now-classic Love Really Hurts Without You – hitting number two in the UK and number 12 in the US, followed by top 20 hits Love On Delivery, Stop Me and Red Light Spells Danger.

But it was his move from GTO Records to Jive Records in 1985 and the million-selling US number one Caribbean Queen that made him one of the best known artists of the decade.

The Grammy-winning hit was followed by Loverboy, Suddenly, and an appearance on the American leg of Live Aid.

More hits followed in 1986 with When the Going Gets Tough and There’ll Be Sad Songs and Get Outta My Dreams; Get Into My Car.

After time out with his family, Billy returned to touring in 2007 and recording in 2008, releasing a new album Because I Love You in 2009, followed by a best of album a year later which sold over 70,000 copies in four weeks in the UK.
