THE “KING” of English folk is bringing his much-imitated sound to Baldock.

Radio 2 Folk Awards winner Martin Carthy, a veteran of 40 years on the English folk scene, will be at Baldock and Letchworth Folk Club on Wednesday, at their home at The Orange Tree.

Carthy’s musical partnerships with, amongst others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick as well as family – his wife Norma Waterson and daughter Eliza Carthy - has resulted in more than 40 albums, with new solo album Waiting For Angels the latest.

A ballad singer and innovative acoustic and electric guitarist, his interpretations of traditional folk songs on guitar influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

He was awarded an MBE for services to English music in 1998 and won Singer of the Years and Best Traditional Track at the Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2005.

Entry for non-members is 12. The music begins at 8.30pm.
