One of the world’s leading tabla players will be performing in Hitchin next week.

Pandit Yogesh Samsi will be at the Singh Sabha Gurdwara on Wilbury Way as part of a free Indian classical music evening on Saturday April 28.

The Indian musician will be joined by percussionist Manjit Singh and santoor and harmonium player Kaviraj Singh.

The event is part of a series of Rhythms of the World community projects to bring world music to the town outside of the festival period and connect people of different cultures. It is in association with SAAZ, the Indian Classical Music Society and Music School.

Steve Smither, ROTW performance director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some incredible music out in the community. I’d like to thank Sukhi Rayat and Ranjeet Sokhi from SAAZ for their enthusiasm and support in bringing the event together, it just wouldn’t have been possible without them”.

Sukhi Rayat said the Sikh community is “very excited about this event”.

Attendees are asked to respect the Gurdwara’s traditions and not enter the grounds under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Smoking is also not permitted in the grounds.

The music starts at 7.30pm.
