A PIECE of music mentioned in the controversial hit novel Fifty Shades of Grey will be featured at a Singing Day.

Benslow Music hosts the event open to anyone with some choral singing experience at St Mary’s Church in Hitchin on Saturday, October 20.

Included in the programme is Spem in Alium, written by the English composer Thomas Tallis.

The recording which the lead protagonist in Fifty Shades of Grey listens to is the bestselling one in which The Tallis Scholars are directed by Peter Phillips, who will be leading the Singing Day.

“Having admired his recording of the piece for a long time, I’m thrilled that Peter is coming to Hitchin to lead this extraordinary event,” said Stephen Pettitt, Benslow Music’s director of music.

“We’ve already attracted about 120 singers who are all eagerly learning their parts for this wonderful, uplifting work. But we have room for plenty more, and would especially welcome a few more tenors and bass singers. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with a world-famous choral director who has made the piece his own.”

The day runs from 10am to 3.30pm and costs 24, but is free for all full-time students. For more information about taking part call 01462 459446 or email info@benslowmusic.org
