Could this be a morality tale from on high, as we witness the continual tabloid-baiting adventures and critical backlash against drug-addled Pete Doherty, while his estranged buddy and ex-Libertines bandmate Carl Barat forges ahead with new band DPT?
Waterloo To Anywhere features plenty of lyrics that could document Carl's confusion and frustration over Pete's destructive behaviour, but the music remains fast, focused and snappy.
Moreover, it features the pure indie-pop gold of Bang Bang You're Dead, surely already a classic of 2006.
But while Waterloo's music has plenty of energy, ideas and pace, it lacks the raggedy, unpredictable and chaotic edge that Carl's foil once provided. 3/5
