For more than 20 years Graham Pointon ran one of the smallest, busiest and most controversial departments at the BBC.
As pronunciation advisor he had to set an acceptable standard of spoken English for broadcasters - a task that draws more than its fair share of flak from those who think they know better.
Now retired, he has some interesting views on how the spoken word has changed in recent years.
