THIS Saturday sees the return of bi-monthly indie and rock night The Cookie Club at Club 85 in Whinbush Road, Hitchin. Main man Tim Cookie told us what to expect:

"If you thought discos were a thing of the past then think again.

"I grew up with dark and dingy indie clubs and always wanted something more than just the music, so I decided to create a very visual night, with loads of weird graphics, videos and backdrops.

"The Cookie Club features DJs and projections, two live bands and even free cookies.

"With only two bands and more DJs, the Cookie Club provides an alternative to the usual three to four band line-ups.

"For me, what you hear playing between the bands is just as important as the bands you book for the night.

"Fewer bands also means more experimentation, longer sets and ultimately less pressure for the bands, too."

This month's live show kicks off with Violet Martinez and their "bubblegum flavoured pop punk", visit www.violetmartinez.co.nr for more information.

They will be followed by The Hyads, once described as, "the band your eyes, heart and guts (in that order) have been waiting for."

Think The Pixies, Stereophonics, Blondie, The Stooges, The Foo Fighters, The Jam, the Dandy Warhols and you are half way there. Alternatively give www.thehyads.com a minute of your time.

Between bands, and afterwards until midnight, Tim Cookie will be spinning indie, rock, punk and grunge anthems with a few old school and breakbeat classics thrown in.

Entry to the 16+ venue is £4, the action kicks off at 7.45pm and songs can be requested at www.myspace.com/timcookie
