HITCHIN Thespians certainly chose a different type of production with Jekyll and Hyde, The Musical!

With a dark foreboding atmosphere and the ensemble divided into "rich" or "poor" folk we were led into the scientific world of Dr Jekyll and his rejection by the hospital governors of his human research.

Undaunted, he proceeds, experimenting with potions on himself, only to fall under their control and change into his evil alter ego.

It was an electrifying performance by Tom Evans that certainly made me feel creepy when he transformed into Hyde. Nicola Niles was well cast bringing a touch of class as Emma, his fiancée, always believing in him and his work.

The most sizzling part was gorgeous, raunchy Lucy, dynamically played by Tracey Gwynne. The scenes inside The Red Rat were more than a little risqué but gave a telling insight into the vocations of the ladies and the entertainment on offer.

I thought the singing fantastic, costumes and music great. Do go along and support The Thespians, until Saturday, October 7, at the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.
