NO DISTRIBUTION company in its right mind would issue a new release this week to compete with Pirates.
Whilst most have held back completely, Optimum Home Entertainment decided to try its luck with re-releasing Akira Kurosawa's Ran - a far superior film experience.
First released in 1985, Ran is a retelling of Shakespeare's King Lear set in 16th century feudal Japan and involves a power struggle between three sons after their aging father chooses to divide his land between them.
Ran is a glorious feat of movie making. 5/5
